Rating: ***
Having been offering the regional Indian cuisine of Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai and Peshawar since 1990, a time when there was little appreciation among restaurant goers of authentic Indian cuisine. At the Chelsea original, an upmarket clientele was introduced to short menu of Anglo-Indian inspired dishes of the Raj such as Bangalore bangers and mash, Parsi roast duck and Mughal chicken korma.
Chutney Mary is probably the nearest thing to a ‘chain’ in a sector dominated by independent, family-run businesses.
Recommended: Grazing on snacks or selections from the full menu in the glamorous Pukka Bar of the St James’s venue, with luxurious sofas and carved stonework.
