South East London suburban outpost of Atul Kocchar’s spreading Empire (Kanishka, Sindhu, Riwaz), Indian Essence franchised by restaurateur Jitindar Singh who also owns the more recently opened Essence at the Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Opened in 2012 with head chef Ali Mustaq.
Brings an air of cosmopolitan dinning style to the leafy ‘burbs with modern art and lattice fretwork. Signature dishes: chicken tikka ‘pie’ with prune compote, tandoori monkfish, marinated grilled rabbit with cherry chutney and the historic Anglo-Indian ‘railway curry’.
The short lunch menu (£18 two course, £22 for three) grows by night. The tasting menu (£60) offers value with pescetarian vegetarian and vegan alternatives.
