Kruti Coffee, a specialist coffee concept with its roots in the tribal coffee farms of India’s Odisha state, has begun its global expansion with the launch of its first UK site.
The business has launched its first overseas site on Tooting High Street, in south London. The site is designed to offer “a comprehensive specialty coffee experience, featuring a range of manual brewing methods as well as espresso-based beverages prepared using Kruti Coffee’s signature 100% Arabica house blend”.
Odisha is one of India’s 16 recognised coffee-growing regions, famous for its shade-grown arabica coffee cultivated in the Eastern Ghats.
Kruti was founded in 2013 to revive a neglected coffee plantation in Odisha’s Koraput region. Aside from its wholesale business, the company operates seven sites in India.
A company spokesman said: “London was a natural choice for Kruti Coffee’s international debut, given the city’s global influence, vibrant café culture, and rapidly growing appreciation for specialty coffee. The new outlet marks the beginning of Kruti Coffee’s global expansion and its mission to establish Indian specialty coffee among the world’s finest coffee origins.”
Kruti Coffee was established in 2013 as a non-profit impact initiative by two doctors, Dr. Kamakhya Das and Dr. Amol Jadhav, both alumni of the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai.
2023 was a watershed year for Kruti Coffee, when Kruti Coffee’s Kindiriguda Naturals was awarded “Best Arabica Naturals” at the “Fine Cup Award” during the “5th World Coffee Conference”.
Over the last decade, Kruti Coffee has built a mark for itself in the space of specialty coffee in India and sources green beans responsibly from various coffee-growing regions of India.
Kruti Coffee’s overarching goal is to become a leading specialty coffee player in India that creates unique single-origin roasts and blends from coffees grown in various regions of India and eventually create some magical blends by combining Indian specialty coffee with specialty coffees grown in various regions of the World. Principles of “Fair Trade” are core to Kruti Coffee’s operating model.
