Brighton’s Coconut Island comes to London

A Sri Lankan restaurant concept is to open in North London. Founded in Brighton in March last year, Coconut Island has secured the former Bill’s site at The Angel, Islington.

The new restaurant will open in April with the promise that, “You’ll feel like you have the sun on your face and the sand between your toes.”

Food offerings will include traditional Sri Lankan hoppers (bowl-shaped pancakes), kothu (chopped roti), wattakka (spiced pumpkin with coconut milk), pineapple curry, and salads of fresh gotu kola leaves with coconut, onion and chilli.

Puddings will feature watalappam made from of coconut milk, jaggery and cashew nuts and dope plantain – arrack battered plantain lightly drizzled with treacle.
